Imps forward Justin Obikwu says it was a great feeling to score his first City goal after he helped the Imps to a 3-1 win over Luton Town at the LNER Stadium on Saturday.

The young striker showed composure beyond his years to capitalise on an error at the back to put the Imps ahead with just four minutes remaining, with the Coventry City loanee thrilled to make a winning contribution.

He said: “It was a great feeling to score my first goal, especially playing in front of the fans for the first time too.

“I’m very grateful to score and to get my first assist too, which is of course a bonus.

“The defender headed the ball onto my hip and then instincts took over. I was pretending to whip it into the far corner and went near post instead.”

Obikwu, who signed for the Imps on deadline day and jetted straight off to the Caribbean to represent Trinidad & Tobago, quickly made his mark with the decisive second goal.

He said: “My main aim is to gain as much experience as possible developing under a new head coach and a new team as well.

“Obviously I want to help the club push towards their objectives too and make a positive contribution by scoring and assisting.

“The fans really carried us through the game, especially towards the end when Luton had equalised.

“When I came on it was noticeable how loud they were. It was a great team effort and that includes the fans too, they really were the 12th man for us.”

Striker Ben House helped himself to a brace against the Hatters and was keen to point out the togetherness in the squad.

House added: “I think you can see it, especially from the reaction at the end with the fans, we’re all together.

“You can see the team spirit that we have here and wins like that mean so much, not only to the players, but to everyone involved. There’s a buzz around the city right now.

“I’m playing a mixture of roles at the minute and I’m happy to do that for the team, helping us to win together is the main thing for me.

“I think that you can see by the summer signings that we're getting good players, and we’ve got a really good group here.

“When you have a spirit and a togetherness like we have, there’s no limit to what you can achieve. Obviously we're all running for each other, as I said, and that's a really good base for a great team.”
