City return to the LNER Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as they host Cambridge United (3pm KO).

Read what assistant head coach Tom Shaw and forward Freddie Draper had to say ahead of the fixture, as well as catch up on all the important match information in this preview.

Tom Shaw:

“I’m delighted for Freddie getting a new contract, just watching his growth in the past five seasons since he came to the club alone has been brilliant and rewarding for everyone around him.

“They’ve picked a few decent results up in the past few weeks and have landed on a way of playing that makes them really difficult to break down. We’ve got a good idea of what the game will look like so that’s been our plan throughout the week.

“They’re a gritty, organised football team who have got a good counter attack so we’ve got to be careful when trying to search them. We need an afternoon where we’ve got territory and possession which builds an intimidating atmosphere in the ground.”

Freddie Draper:

"I'm thankful to the club for the belief they've always shown in me and now it's on me to go and repay them. I feel like I'm in a good place to go and do that.

"I've been here for nearly five years now and my whole career kicked on when I came to the club. They've trusted me and shown even more belief with the new contract.

"Every team in this league are a good team and it'll be tough against Cambridge but we feel confident and we'll do our best to try and get the win. We're a confident group and we know what we need to do to win the game."

A look at the opposition:

The U's have been a Sky Bet League One side since 2021, after securing automatic promotion from League Two the season prior.

Gary Monk's side currently find themselves 24th and bottom of the league, after a difficult opening half to the season. Last time out, United picked up a point at home to promotion-chasing Wycombe Wanderers, thanks to Josh Stokes' effort, seven minutes from time.

In the reverse fixture, Michael Skubala's side took all three points from the Cledara Abbey Stadium, with forwards Freddie Draper and Bailey Cadamateri amongst the goals in a 2-0 away win.
