Members of City’s first-team squad visited the International Bomber Command Centre ahead of the club’s remembrance fixture against Stockport County on Saturday 26 October.
The Imps were given a guided tour of the premises which concluded with wing-back Tendayi Darikwa laying a wreath in memory of the pilots that lost their lives serving their country.
Goalkeeper George Wickens was interested to learn about the Dambusters and the 617 squadron - history that is now synonymous with the Imps on a matchday.
He said: “It’s obviously a massive part of the club’s history and identity as well as Lincolnshire itself. I was a bit unaware of some of it coming in, but it’s a big part of the stadium so to understand the context behind why that’s there was super interesting.
“It’s a very fitting time to do it with the Stockport fixture coming up, and to watch Tendayi lay the wreath was a really nice moment.”
City’s upcoming home fixture against Stockport will include a short ceremony before the match as well as a minute’s silence to allow supporters to pay their respects.
