Michael Skubala praised his side's ruthlessness following their 6-0 win over Cambridge United at the LNER Stadium on Tuesday night.
Jack Moylan's first-half brace was followed up by a double from Joe Taylor and goals from TJ Eyoma and Dylan Duffy in the second period as City extended their unbeaten run to 12 matches.
The head coach said: "I thought we were ruthless from start to finish and you could see how much these guys want to win at the minute.
"We're a tough team to play against and the mentality of the group is fantastic at the moment.
"We talk about starting the game fast and on the front foot, and we did that really well so credit to them.
"There were some brilliant performances to a man once again. I'm really impressed with them all.
"Performance behaviours are important. We're training them to be really honest and strong. We have to go game by game and we have a really tough one at home against Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
"We want to keep pushing as much as we can. We're putting a marker down that says if anyone slips up we'll be there and while I'm happy the fans are enjoying it, my job is to go after the next game. For me it's about doing the right thing at the right time, and that's going into the next game trying to win it."
Ben House came off early in the first period, and Skubala explained: "He felt a little bit of his quad, which is not ideal and it's one that could take 48 to 72 hours to assess. We've just got to see how he is."
Alex Mitchell was also replaced early in the second period, with the head coach adding: "He felt a little tightness in his hamstring. We think he'll be okay, but it was more a precaution that we took him off as we didn't want to cause any more damage to him."
