Tom Shaw is asking for his side to put on a standout performance at the LNER Stadium as City welcome Port Vale on Saturday afternoon.

The interim head coach wants to give the supporters a reason to get behind the squad as they can help play a huge part in the outcome of the result.

He said: “We have worked very hard as a group and the players are very excited for this fixture - it’s time for a big performance at the LNER Stadium.

“Our supporters are the envy of every coach and player in this division and we have to give them something to get behind and make it a difficult place to come for Port Vale.”

Shaw is also hoping to take the momentum of a midweek victory into the match, with a number of standout players putting themselves in the frame for more minutes against the Valiants.

He added: “Tuesday was a positive evening with some big performances from players who needed minutes, which is great and gives us some tough decisions going into Port Vale.

"You have to prepare yourself for those opportunities and they have trained brilliantly which gave them the chance to perform.

“I’ve got a good relationship with every player and it’s rewarding when you see people like Dylan Duffy put in the extra work to get himself in the best place possible and taking his opportunity when he’s gotten it.”
