Edun: Supporters inspired us

Tayo Edun said the return of fans to the LNER Stadium helped inspire his side to victory against Fleetwood Town.

The left-back’s surging run into the penalty area was halted unfairly for the spot-kick which led to Anthony Scully’s decisive second goal in the 2-1 success.

He said: “There was a message at half-time that we had to step it up a bit, and that the fans would get behind us if we did get that goal.

“They stuck with us and we were really happy to get the win over the line.”

The Imps fell behind early thanks to Danny Andrew’s impressive free-kick, and Edun knows he and his team-mates will have to be patient at times throughout the season.

He added “It took us a while to get going, but it’s a long season and we’re going to have moments where we go behind or don’t start well.

“But, whether it’s an individual or we need to come together as a team to switch the momentum, we’ve shown we can come through it.”
