At Lincoln City Foundation we are proud to uniquely deliver a Community Organising programme in the Sincil Bank neighbourhood of Lincoln, which over the past six years has been bringing local people together to take action around their common concerns and aspirations.

The Foundation’s Community Organising team are now part of the Place Based Social Action (PBSA) programme in the Sincil Bank area; and the neighbourhood is one of only 10 places in the whole of England to be awarded the PBSA funding by the DCMS and the National Lottery Community Fund.

One of the main priorities of the PBSA programme was to increase engagement with migrant communities in the Sincil Bank area, especially as it was identified that people lacking in English ability often find it hard to integrate into local communities.

A number of English language classes are now delivered for free within the community, facilitated by the Community Organising team. There are a variety of weekly groups for all abilities, and sessions are held in collaboration with local primary schools and at the Community Hub for the area.

Since the start of the PBSA project the number of local people studying English has gone up week by week and there has subsequently been an increase in these people getting involved with other events and activities in the Sincil Bank area. Classes have reached out to a wide variety of people from countries including Bulgaria, Mexico, China, Poland and Italy, and the positive effect of the classes can best be told through the stories collected from participants: CLICK HERE

Today on EFL Day of Action, we celebrate the impact these classes have had by inviting participants to the LNER Stadium for a bespoke English class, with a chance to tour the stadium and practice speaking and listening skills by interviewing first team players.
