"I'm learning from the manager every day"

Jake Hesketh says the players are itching to get back to winning ways against Rotherham United when the Millers visit LNER Stadium on Friday night.

The 23-year-old joined the Imps on loan from Southampton in the summer and has made 14 appearances so far and he's hoping to get back out onto the pitch in front of an almost sell out crowd tomorrow against The Millers.

“It’s massive but I think that’s the case any weekend. Especially after a loss, everyone wants to go out and put it right. It was disappointing last weekend; we’ve played two teams at the top of the table and run them close so I don’t think we should be too downbeat about those two.

“I’ve just got to show what I can do in training, and whatever minutes I get on the pitch, I have to show that I deserve to be there.”

The midfielder spoke about his experience at the Imps so far and says it's far better for him as a player to experience the 'man's game' rather than under-23 football.

“I’m really enjoying it, training’s been good and I’m getting on well with the lads.

“There’s a lot of competition, quite a few attacking players have come in so that’s something you’ve got to overcome and prove that you should be playing instead.

“I experienced [playing first-team football] last year [at Burton Albion and MK Dons], that was my first taste and I don’t think Under-23s football really compares.”

Jake also mentioned how much he has developed as player since arriving at LNER Stadium from the Saints.

“I feel like I’m a much better player than when I came, I’m learning from the manager every day and the other players here. Getting match experience on a Saturday is massive.”

Jake’s looking forward to taking on Rotherham under the lights on Friday night as he says there's something special about a game played on an evening.

“When it’s an evening game I personally prefer it, I know a few of the lads do. It brings a bit more of a buzz and a bit more of an atmosphere.”
