Five opponents the Imps have faced the most in the Football League

City's fixture at Rochdale was the 109th Football League meeting between the two sides, which moved the Greater Manchester club to the top of the list following Tuesday night's draw at the Crown Oil Arena.

Listed below are the five most frequent Football League fixtures involving the Imps.

Rochdale AFC - 109

Our first meeting with Dale came in February, 1922.

City have won 24 of the 54 home games, drawing 15 and losing 15. The Imps have scored 99 goals, conceding 59.

However, the Imps have won just 16 times at the now-named Crown Oil Arena. The pair have shared the points 16 times, with the Greater Manchester side winning 22.

Darlington FC - 108

The Imps and the Quakers first faced one another in 1921. 

The last league meeting between the two sides came in the North-East in February, 2010. Danny Hone was the scorer in a 1-1 draw at the Darlington Arena.

City hosted Darlington 54 times, winning 31, drawing 13 and winning 10.

The Imps have travelled the same number of times in the Football League to Darlington, winning just 11, drawing 20 and losing 23 times.

Johnny Campbell has scored the most number of times, scoring six times against the Quakers. Grant Brown appeared 14 times against Darlington in the Football League, the most out of any former Imps.

Doncaster Rovers - 103

City's last league meeting with Doncaster Rovers came in August this season, but previous to that, the two sides hadn't met in the league since the 2003/04 season.

The first league meeting between the two sides came back in 1901, and have met in almost every single decade since.

The Imps have won 29 out of the 51 home league games, drawing 13 and losing just nine. While, in South Yorkshire, the Imps have won 17, drawn 15 and lost 20.

Chesterfield - 102

The first meeting between the Imps and the Spireites came in the 1899/00 season, with the most recent meeting coming in the 2017/18 campaign, with the Imps running out 3-1 victors in Derbyshire.

The Imps have won 25 out of the 51 home clashes, losing 14. Whereas on the road, City have won just 12 times, losing 25.

Stockport County - 100

National League side County and the Imps have faced each other 50 times on each ground.

City have an impressive home record, winning 29 of them, while winning just 10 and losing 27 on the road.

The last league meeting came in 2010, when both sides were relegated from the Football League. An Ashley Grimes hat-trick secured City a 4-3 win at Edgeley Park.
