Imps’ manager, Danny Cowley has today spoken about the three players who are in ongoing discussions with the football club.

Sam Habergham, Matt Gilks and Michael O’Connor are the three remaining players whose contracts are due to expire this summer, and Danny says he would love to be able to keep the group together to continue on the journey at Sincil Bank.

“First and foremost, I would like to place on record our thanks to all the players who contributed to what has been another wonderful season for Lincoln City Football Club.

“Conversations are ongoing with Matt Gilks, we are close to agreeing a new deal with Michael O’Connor, however, at this time we’re not yet in a position to make a final decision around Sam Habergham and his future until we have had a follow up appointment with the consultant so we all know where we are in terms of his progress levels.”

Retaining the services of some of the players who have come into the club on loan this season would also be a plus for the City boss, but Danny is aware that any prospective signings will depend on finances as the ongoing financial stability of the club is maintained in the first instance.

“Wherever possible, we want to try and have continuity, we have 15 or so players currently in our squad, so hopefully we would like to try and sign the likes of Matt Gilks for another year and bring back a number of the loan players on permanent deals. Our ambition is to hopefully be in a position to do that, but of course we have to make sure the finances allow us to do so.”
