Following the success of the last Legends Dinner with former Imps Cockerill and Harford our Youth Academy is pleased to announce details of our next Dinner.
On Thursday 12th October their Legends Dinner, sponsored by Sleafordian Coaches, will see football and cricket come together when former Imps’ defender, Worcestershire county cricketer and current England Cricket Board Operations Manager Phil Neale OBE is joined by Steve Thompson who both played for and managed Lincoln City and is currently a member of BBC Radio Lincolnshire’s football commentary team.
The event is being held in the Travis Perkins Suite at Sincil Bank with a 7:00pm for 7:30pm start time. Tables of 10 places are available at £400 on a first-come, first-served basis. To book your table please email youthadmin@lincolncityfc.co.uk
Invitation is open to both male and female guests. Dress code is lounge suits or smart-casual for gentlemen.
Neale captained Worcestershire to success in the County Championship in 1988 and 1989. He also played football for Lincoln City, where he made 335 league appearances, Scunthorpe United, Worcester City and Gloucester City.
Phil Neale was a right-handed middle order batsman and was a fixture in Worcestershire side for the 15 seasons; scoring 1,000 runs in a season eight times and exceeding 900 in five others, and captaining the side for many years. His sole representative appearance was for England A against Pakistan when they toured England. In all matches, he scored more than 17,000 runs at an average of almost 36.5 runs per innings.
Following his retirement in 1992 he has been prominent as a coach and team manager at both county and national levels. Since 2000 he has been working as Operations Manager for the England cricket team.
Thompson was sold by Boston United to Colin Murphy's Lincoln City in April 1980 for a fee of £15,000. In August 1985, after playing over 150 games for Lincoln, Thompson moved to Charlton Athletic. He became captain of Charlton and led them to promotion to the First Division and the Simod Cup final.
He moved to Leicester City in July 1988 for a fee of £40,000 and then to Sheffield United in November the same year for a fee of £20,000. In August 1989 he returned to Lincoln City where he finished his playing career. In two spells Thompson had played over 180 league games for The Imps.
Thompson managed Lincoln from November 1990 until May 1993 and subsequently managed Southend United, Sheffield United, Cambridge United and Notts County.
