Imps striker Matt Rhead believes that his relationship with the club and the security for his family made it ideal to extend his stay at Sincil Bank.
Rhead signed a new deal on Tuesday to add an extra year onto his previous contract, which now keeps him with Danny Cowley’s side until June 2019.
The Imps boss mentioned how he’d like Matt to play out the rest of his career at City, and it’s something that appeals to the National League winner too.
“We’ve been quite successful while the gaffer has been here, we have a good relationship and it’s more security for my family so it fits all parties.” Rhead said.
“I enjoy the support from the fans, the lads are great and hopefully we can continue being successful as we were last year.
“I would love to finish my career at Lincoln. I feel like I’ve got plenty to give and I can keep playing for a good few years yet, but I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t stay even further beyond my current contract.”
Rhead, who arrived at Sincil Bank in 2015 from Mansfield Town, lives in Stoke-on-Trent, and he believes the way he’s looked after has been crucial to the success he’s had on the pitch so far, and will continue to benefit the forward in the future.
“The way they (the management and the back room staff) pull out all the stops and give me an extra day off to do my individual work is really beneficial to me.” He added.
“They could tell the difference last year, I felt a lot stronger and I didn’t pick up as many injuries as I had before. I think at my age, and the way I play, I don’t need to train every day, so credit to the back room and management team for working out what I need to get the best out of me.”
A real fans’ favourite at Lincoln City, ‘Rheady’ re-iterated how great the support has been during his stay at the club so far, and it gave him another reason to want to sign the dotted line.
“From day one they’ve welcomed me and I believe that I play my best in front of them. Their support is fantastic, they come out in their thousands both home and away, and they always give me a great reception. That was part of the reasons I wanted my stay here as well.” The 33-year-old said.
The Imps’ number nine scored 15 goals last season, and has three so far this campaign.
