400 Up!

Adam Marriott’s excellent turn and finish at Woking was not only his first competitive goal for the Imps but was also the 400th we have scored in our Conference/National League history.

It came in our 273rd  game at this level with Marriott being the 83rd different Imps scorer with 14 own goals being scored by 13 opposition players as Tamworth’s Danny Thomas scored twice in one game.

In the previous 272 games we had failed to score on 69 occasions with one goal coming in 89 games, two in 55 games, three in 43, four in nine and five in seven leaving us on 399 goals going into the Woking game.  221 goals have been scored at home with 178 away prior to Saturday.

The games we have scored five in are:

5-1 v Cheltenham, 31/10/1987
5-3 v Kidderminster, 28/12/1987
5-0 v Altrincham, 26/03/1988
5-1 v Boston United, 04/04/1988
5-0 v Darlington, 09/04/2012
5-1 v Hyde, 20/04/2013
5-3 v Macclesfield, 18/08/2015
with all bar the Hyde game being here at Sincil Bank

Top scoring season was 1987/88 when Colin Murphy’s title winning side scored 86 times with last season’s 69 being the next highest followed by 66 in 2012/13, 62 in 2014/15, 60 in 2013/14 and a low of 56 in 2011/12.

Individual top League scorers in each season have been:

1987/88 Phil Brown 16
2011/12 Sam Smith 7
2012/13 Jamie Taylor 13
2013/14 Ben Tomlinson 18
2014/15 Ben Tomlinson 14
2015/16 Matt Rhead 20

Top scorer for us overall is not surprisingly Ben Tomlinson who as seen found the back of the net on 32 occasions with Alan Power (25) and Matt Rhead (20 before his brace at Woking) being the only others to have scored 20 or more.

Jamie Taylor on 17 and Phil Brown with 16 make up our top five scorers with John McGinley (15), Tom Miller (11), Vadaine Oliver (11), Jordan Burrow (10) and Liam Hearn (10) the only others to make double figures.

Hat-tricks have come from:

Mick Waitt 4-1 v Stafford Rangers, 05/09/1987
Colin Larkin 4-2 v Dartford, 08/12/2012
Vadaine Oliver 5-1 v Hyde, 20/04/2013
Ben Tomlinson 3-1 v FC Halifax Town, 01/02/2014
Liam Hearn 5-3 v Macclesfield, 18/08/2015
with the first three all coming away from home.

Marriott became the 14th player to score on his debut for us with two players - David Mossman v Dagenham on 29/08/1987 and Waide Fairhurst v Forest Green on 17/08/2013 - scoring twice.

Most goals have come in games against Braintree Town who have seen us score 24 times against them in 10 games with Southport 18 in 10, Kidderminster 17 in 12, Macclesfield 16 in 10 and Hyde 15 in just 4 games the other sides we have scored the most against.

We have only failed to score against four of the 58 sides we have played with Kettering Town (four games) and Bromley, York and Weymouth (all just two games) the others.
