SET To Deliver NCS

13 January 2015

Lincoln City FC Sport & Education Trust have introduced a new team to run a once in a lifetime programme...

... called the National Citizen Service (NCS) for 15-17 year olds throughout Lincolnshire and Rutland.

The NCS team consists of Georgia Kelly (Programme Manager), Alexandria Shaw (Programme Co-Ordinator) and Jack Clixby (Programme Co-Ordinator). The team will be working in partnership with the Education Business Partnership and the EM1 region.

NCS is a government funded programme to give young people the opportunity to develop their life skills outside of the classroom to aid them in their transition from school to work, sixth form or college which could ultimately land them a place at university.

The programme consists of three phases throughout four weeks of the summer holidays.

The first phase will take place at PGL Caythorpe, where they will be doing numerous activities to challenge and reward themselves, such as abseiling, raft building and ending with a group camp fire to celebrate their achievements during the week.

Next, the young people get the opportunity to visit Nottingham University where they will be staying in halls of residence to get a taste of independence and responsibility by living away from home. This week entails themed days based around community engagement, where the young people are expected to participate in various local business and charity challenges.

In the last phase young people are tasked with planning and delivering a successful volunteering and community project to strengthen their local community relationships.

On successful completion of the four week programme, the young people will be invited to attend a graduation ceremony where they are presented with a signed certificate by the prime minister, congratulating them and acknowledging their achievements.

As this programme is heavily subsidised by the government, a place which would normally cost over £1,400 actually only costs just £35 for this summer’s 2015 NCS Programme.

Summer dates:
29 June 2015
6 July 2015
20 July 2015
27 July 2015
