It was a home win on day two of the second annual Keith Alexander Memorial Tournament.

On a swelteringly hot day on the Sincil Bank 3G Lincoln City’s Under 16s beat their Peterborough United counterparts 2-1 to clinch the trophy.

In the semi finals it was Nottingham Forest against City and Peterborough United playing Scunthorpe United.  Peterborough saw of the Iron threat 4-2 whilst in a close encounter in the other match it went right to the wire.  With seconds remaining and the score 0-0 Under 15 City striker George Couzens broke from the halfway line.  His pace took him round the keeper who clipped his legs.  Couzens' spot kick was saved but he was on hand to tuck away the rebound.  Within seconds the referee blew his whistle and City were in the final.

Couzens was again the scorer in the first half of the final as he left the Posh defence in his wake and slid the ball past the keeper.  The tie was heading into the dying minutes when for the first time in the tournament City conceded.  But the Young Imps were not to be denied and replied almost immediately with a cup-winning goal from Josh Barr-Rostron

The recipient of the Richard Butcher Memorial Award for Player of the Tournament was Lincoln’s Under 15 goalkeeper Richard Walton who, like George Couzens, was playing a year up for the triumphant Under 16s.
