Match Reports

Imps 0 Peterborough United 0

27 January 2024

A battling Imps performance helped secure a point at home to promotion-challenging Peterborough United.

After an even opening 10 minutes City looked to find a way through as Lasse Sorensen sent a long throw into the box which made its way through to Ted Bishop whose strike under pressure rose above the crossbar.

Soon after Ricky-Jade Jones almost caught Lukas Jensen out with a drilled effort from outside the box which the goalkeeper spilled before quickly pouncing on the loose ball.

The Imps continued to hold their own against the high-flyers throughout the first half and went close to scoring again in the 27th minute after Sorensen skipped away from Harrison Burrows’ challenge down the right before striking into the side netting.

Michael Skubala’s side looked to take advantage of this as Joe Taylor won the ball on the edge of the area before laying off to Ethan Erhahon whose curling effort was held comfortably by Jed Steer.

Peterborough finished the half well and hit the woodwork as Ajiboye’s first-time cross was swept towards goal by Jones, with the ball taking a deflection and coming off the crossbar.

The Posh began the second half how they finished the first as Joel Randall’s ball to Burrows in the box was fired at goal to force Jensen into a diving save at full stretch to keep score level.

Reeco Hackett then tested the goalkeeper at the other end in the 54th minute after he got away from his man before seeing his near post effort beaten behind by Steer.

Skubala brought on Jack Moylan and Danny Mandroiu midway through the second half who almost impacted quickly, but City’s No. 14 couldn’t steer his effort the right side of the post from three yards out after his initial shot was blocked.

Darren Ferguson’s side enjoyed a lot of the ball in the final third as the game headed into the final stages but were unable to find the decisive touch to break the deadlock.

Ethan Hamilton was almost the hero for City in stoppage time after he went on a surging run forward, but the Scotsman could only sweep his shot the wrong side of the far post.

Imps: Lukas Jensen, Alex Mitchell, Adam Jackson, Sean Roughan, Ethan Erhahon, Ted Bishop (Danny Mandroiu 68’), Ethan Hamilton, Lasse Sorensen, Reeco Hackett, Joe Taylor (Jack Moylan 68’), Freddie Draper (Jovon Makama 81). Subs (not used): Jordan Wright, Jack Burroughs, Dylan Duffy, TJ Eyoma.

Peterborough: Jed Steer, Jadel Katongo, Harrison Burrows ©, Ronnie Edwards, Josh Knight, Ephron Mason-Clark, Joel Randall (Ryan De Havilland 66’), David Ajiboye (Jonson Clarke-Harris 66’), Ricky-Jade Jones (Malik Mothersille 86’), Hector Kyprianou, Archie Collins.
