Matty Virtue handed over a signed City shirt to a young Imps supporter who sent him a get well soon card ahead of Saturday's game against Bristol Rovers.
Albert Vamplew, aged seven, handed Virtue a handmade card to wish him well on his recovery to full fitness prior to the Cambridge United fixture at the end of last month.
The City midfielder was touched by the gesture so invited Albert pitchside before Saturday's game to present a shirt signed by the first-team squad to thank him for his support.
Matty said: “I was very surprised to receive the handmade card from Albert and was delighted to be able to give something back to him for his ongoing support for me and the rest of the City squad.”
Richard, Albert's dad, added: "After the Ipswich game Albert decided he wanted to do a card for Matty and copied his picture out the programme.
"He didn't know he was going to meet Matty as we kept it as a surprise and was a bit starstruck, so thanks to everyone at the club."
