Nigel Clough’s side are currently 12th in the Sky Bet League One table after picking up 4 points from their last two games. Their most recent three points came against Southend United on Saturday 22 February with Lucas Akins, Ryan Edwards and Jamie Murphy scoring the goals for Burton.

Burton currently have the 4th best away record in Sky Bet League One and the away side have not lost a game since the middle of February, when they were defeated 4-1 at Portman Road by Ipswich Town.

In their most recent fixture John Brayford was on the scoresheet, grabbing his second goal of the season when Peterborough visited the Pirelli Stadium at the end of February.

Manager’s Comments

Following his return to Burton in 2015, Nigel Clough quickly guided Burton to promotion to the Sky Bet Championship. Burton finished second in Sky Bet League One during the 2015/16 season, only six months after Clough’s arrival, securing themselves automatic promotion.

The 53-year-old first arrived at Burton in 1998 as a player-coach where he remained until 2009, following his official retirement as a player in 2008.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s game Clough is targeting the three points and believes his team are more than capable of winning at LNER Stadium

“It’s away from home where we have continued to create chances and score goals. It would be nice to get another goal and three points. We need a clean sheet as well, as that’s been our downfall.

“You look at the teams that succeed and you see how many 1-0s they have, and we haven’t had enough of those.”

The Burton boss continued by speaking about City’s form throughout the season:

“They have been a bit inconsistent, but they were very good when they played us and gained a lot of confidence from an early goal. They are where they are for a reason, but they are also more than capable of putting on a performance.

“They have a big enough squad and when the crowd gets behind them, they are one of those clubs primed to get to the next level when they get everything sorted.”

Lucas Akins

Burton’s top scorer of the season, Lucas Akins has contributed 10 goals and five assists to Burton’s 46 goals, being a key part of the team and attacking front. The number 10 has been supporters’ and players’ player of the year for back-to-back seasons since 2017-18. Whilst at Stevenage he became the club’s top goal scorer with 10 goals during the 2012/13 season. Since joining from Stevenage in the summer of 2014 Akins has made 211 leagues appearances for Burton and has scored a total of 53 goals. He quickly made an impact at the club not long after signing, scoring in his third appearance for the club.
