Earlier this evening, we announced the signing of midfielder James Jones on a 3-year deal following the expiry of his contract with Crewe Alexandra.
Clive was thrilled to get our first summer signing over the line as the club look ahead to the 2020/21 campaign in Sky Bet League One.
Clive said, “This signing fits our recruitment model perfectly and James is the exact profile of player that Michael (Appleton) wanted to add to the squad.”
“James is an accomplished player at this level and it’s unusual for someone of his ability, age and experience to be available as a free agent. He is a player with aspirations of playing in the Championship which matches our ambition and we are thrilled that James has chosen to join us as we look forward to the 2020/21 campaign.”
Clive added, “Despite expectations that we will be playing again by at least mid-September, we are still operating in an environment with significant uncertainties. Against that background it is difficult at this time to establish a firm budget for the forthcoming season. We will nevertheless in the interim, support Michael and Jez in their efforts to build a competitive squad and especially so where we are able to make signings that are right for us under different scenarios.”
