Danny Cowley has outlined the importance of making the travelling Imps proud ahead of his side's top-of-the-table clash at MK Dons this afternoon.

Speaking to BBC Radio Lincolnshire's Michael Hortin ahead of kick-off, Danny discussed the omission of Danny Rowe from the match day squad, while sharing his thoughts on the return of Jason Shackell.

Shackell had been absent since the midway point of the Oldham Athletic fixture, but marks his return this afternoon, with Cian Bolger dropping to the bench.

"Cian's been excellent and hasn’t put a foot wrong so it’s been difficult," Danny said.

"They’re team orientated boys and they understand Jason Shackell and Boz have been excellent for us and it’s maybe that relationship that goes against Cian, unfortunately.

"Dan’s (Rowe) not quite made it, he trained yesterday and he’s got a low level injury. On this big pitch and the magnitutde of the game we need everyone at 100%."

Over 5,500 Imps had bought tickets ahead our first trip to MK Dons in over a decade, as the Imps aim to make it 18 unbeaten in Sky Bet League Two.

"There’s always an internal pressure, we’re focussed and determined and amazingly appreciative that we’ve got 6k behind us today and we’ll do all we can to make them proud.

"It’s a huge pitch, it’s firm and the ball will move very quickly. MK are good in possession, they make the pitch big, the play with width and height and ask a lot of you without the ball.

"We’ve got to be organised out of possession but brave in possession. We were against them earlier in the season and we got on them quickly so we’ll hope to do the same today."

However, the Imps boss had one thing he could be certain off, and that's the performance of the travelling City supporters.

"When we came in on the coach it was fantastic, they gave us a great reception, there maybe a lot of people in this building today with the home team but they won’t outsing our fans.

"Our fans have been tremendous, they’ve been with us since day dot on this journey and this is for them."
