Imps goalkeeper Josh Vickers has called on his teammates to bounce back from Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Colchester United with a strong performance against Forest Green this weekend.
Frankie Kent’s first-half strike condemned Lincoln to a third league defeat of the campaign, although they still hold a two-point cushion at the top of the League Two table.
Speaking after the defeat, Vickers reflected on a disappointing afternoon for the Imps.
He said: “It’s been frustrating this last week, dropping points at home and then coming to Colchester looking to bounce back from that and it was one of those days.
“They’re a good team and they’ve got really good home form. They’ve been on a good run and averaging a few goals a game and we just couldn’t get on the right side of it. Other days we might do but today we couldn’t.”
Despite dropping points in recent weeks, the Imps still hold a four-point lead over fourth-placed Newport County.
Vickers insists that his side aren’t resting on their laurels as they aim to continue their push for promotion.
He said: “I think it’s a bit of a reality check, nobody’s better than this league, it’s tough week in, week out.
“We’ve seen that all the teams are fighting whether it’s at the top of the bottom. It’s still early on and it’s tough to take but we’ll reflect on it and we’ll go again.
“On one hand, we’ve got away with it. Then you can look on it the other side, and hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if we pick six points up at home and then come here and win today that gap looks a lot bigger.
“They’re dropping points and we’re dropping points, so we’re getting away with it but that isn’t always going to happen. Throughout the course of the season, we’ll drop points and teams around us will as well, but it’s just about us focusing on ourselves.”
Saturday sees the Imps take on Forest Green at Sincil Bank, and Vickers revealed that his side are itching to get back to winning ways, against fellow play-off contenders.
“We’re going to lose games but it’s about how we react from that. We’ve got a chance to put it right at home and hopefully, we can put on a show for the fans.
“We shouldn’t need help getting up for any game, but especially not that one (Forest Green). There’s been a little bit of needle between the two sides and that was evident last year and we got on the right side of it and we’ll be hoping to do that on Saturday.”
