Imps boss Danny Cowley believes that Stevenage will provide another stern test for his side in this Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two fixture at the Lamex Stadium.
City have collected four points from their last two league outings following a 4-1 victory over Carlisle United, followed up by a 0-0 draw with Luton Town.
Stevenage are sat in second position following an unbeaten start to the season, which included a 1-0 victory at Cheltenham Town last time out.
“They’ve got quite a mature group and they have continuity in that they have been together for quite a long time, and they’re definitely benefitting from that.” Cowley said.
“They were in and around the play-offs last season where they fell away at the death. They have improved further this year and they’ll be right up there. So it’s definitely another tough one for us.”
Darren Sarll's side have kept back-to-back clean sheets away from home in the league, and have scored six goals in their two home league games against Grimsby Town and Newport County.
“They’re a good team. They have two very hard-working and robust forwards, who both have good movement and are never far away from a goal. They’ve got a very experienced back line and a good young goalkeeper.” Cowley added.
“They flick between a 4-4-2, and a 4-3-3 when they’re at home. They make it look like a 4-3-3 as they push the winger higher up the pitch on one side, and the other wide man tucks in a bit more.”
This Saturday will see Jamie McCombe and Michael Bostwick return to Stevenage, having both spent time with The Boro.
“I think it’s always nice to go back to old grounds and probably on a personal point of view Michael and Jamie will probably enjoy going back to see the people they played or worked with in previous times. For us, we have to go and be professional.” The Imps boss said.
“We play Stevenage this Saturday, and then we have another tough game against Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday, and then we have a run of derbies. We need to take any emotion out of the game and concentrate on our own performance against the opposition that we come up against.”
