On Saturday we welcome Chesterfield Football Club to Sincil Bank, here we take a look at what’s been happening around the Spireites on and off the field ahead of kick off.
Off The Field….
Jack Lester has recently returned to the club where he arguably made the biggest impact as a player. He scored 94 of his 177 career goals as a player for the Spireites in a six year spell with the Derbyshire club. He retired as a player in 2014 after finishing his time on the pitch with Gateshead.
More recently Lester took charge of both the Under 18’s, who won the Professional Development League title under his stewardship and then latterly the Under 23’s at Nottingham Forest before moving back to Chesterfield where in his opening two games as manager he has lost one and won one.
Also Chesterfield have recently appointed a new Chief Executive. Michael Dunford. Who joins the club after spells with Birmingham City and Everton.
The Team…
Jack Lester took his side to their first victory under his stewardship at Rotherham United in the Checkatrade Trophy earlier in the week with goals from Diego De Girolamo and a late winner from Jak McCourt.
The Spireites currently reside in 23rd place in Sky Bet League 2 and are yet win a game away from the Proact Stadium in the League.
However, with players such as Chris O’Grady and the talented Sheffield United loanee, Louis Reed, there is a mix of youth and experience throughout the squad.
It is thought that two of their more senior players may miss out this weekend due to injury as goalkeeper Tommy Lee has a knee injury, and Sam Hird has a groin problem.
Opposition Thoughts…
Spireites manager Jack Lester told the Chesterfield Official Website his side face a tough task ahead of them at Sincil Bank this weekend.
"I think they (Lincoln) have got a good identity, they did really well last year, have a good management team and have strong physical players and it will be a tough day.
"They’re a little bit further down the line from us in terms of knowing what they want from one another, their roles and responsibilities are probably crystal clear by this time. They’ll be fit and aggressive.
"It’s a good place to go, I know they have a good home following but we we’ll go there and give them a great game."
Stats V The Spireites….
The Imps have the nod over this weekend’s visitors when it comes to head to head encounters at Sincil Bank. With a home victory coming on 32 of the 62 occasions the two teams have met here in Lincoln. Also City have won two of the last three games between the teams at Sincil Bank.
