City boss Danny Cowley kept faith with the starting XI that began this Emirates FA Cup Third Round tie at Portman Road, Ipswich for this televised Replay in front of the BBC One cameras at Sincil Bank Stadium.With a bumper crowd inside the ground, the atmosphere was electric as referee Ben Toner led the two teams out of the tunnel. After a rapturous minute's applause in memory of Graham Taylor, play got underway with Ipswich kicking off attacking the Stacey West Stand.
It was an evenly-matched opening with the first half-chance of the game seeing Nathan Arnold fire wide from 25 yards in the ninth minute before Ipswich's first attack saw Tom Lawrence force Paul Farman into a save low to his right a minute later.
The cagey start continued past the 20 minute mark with play concentrated mainly in the middle third although Theo Robinson came close but was crowded out as he prepared to pull the trigger inside the Ipswich box.
As the half-hour mark approached, Alex Woodyard ghosted in to get on the end of a Robinson cross but saw his header fly wide and after the half-hour mark Matt Rhead was inches away from connecting with a great Terry Hawkridge centre.
The game's first corner went City's way in the 40th minute after a cross from Hawkridge was deflected behind but Habergham's delivery was hacked clear by the Town defence
In the closing stages of the half Waterfall, up for a throw-in, was denied by an excellent Gerken save but referee Toner somehow awarded a goal-kick, much to the annoyance of the home fans.

Both teams emerged unchanged for the start of the second half so it was as you were as the Imps restarted proceedings.
City were quickly out of the traps with a Habergham free-kick leading to a corner but Arnold saw his delivery sail over everyone and out for a goal-kick. Matt Rhead then saw yellow following an aerial challenge on Christophe Berra.
Lawrence then ran into Wood and certainly came off worse, although the free-kick to the visitors looked a bit harsh and shortly afterwards there was a break in play as Knudson was down having taken a ball in the face.
When play restarted Farman blocked a Josh Emmanuel drive through a crowd of players before Waterfall cleared for a corner whilst at the other end a spell of City pressure put the visiting defence on the back foot. A late challenge on Rhead then earned Jonathan Douglas a 64th minute yellow card.
The visitors were the first to make a change with Freddie Sears and Andre Dozzell replacing Leon Best and Grant Ward with 15 minutes on the clock, this coming before a 76th minute light show for Graham Taylor.
Adam Marriott was then a 79th minute replacement for Theo Robinson and a further seven minutes had elapses before the next attempt at goal with a sliced Knudson effort flying wide of the City goal.
Wood leapt high to head clear an Ipswich corner before his trip on Lawrence earned him a yellow card.
Shortly after the Fourth Official incidated that a minimum of four minutes were to be added on, Marriott released NATHAN ARNOLD with a superb through ball and he duly rounded Gerken to give City a dramatic lead. Sincil Bank erupted.
Jack Muldoon came on for Arnold and was quick to fire at Gerken and play ended with McCombe coming on for Hawkridge.
