Danny Cowley was pleased to see The Imps’ come from behind to win in the second round of the Checkatrade Trophy last night against Accrington Stanley at Sincil Bank.
The City manager said it was a tough game that showed the resilience of his team and paid tribute to their efforts, which ensured they go into the hat for Friday’s third round draw.
“I’m pleased to get through, I thought in the first half we could have been better with the ball but we did well to come in at the break drawing two-two because we didn’t get to where I would have liked us to be in the first half. Stanley scored two great goals, but we were pleased with the players reaction and we have to give credit to the players, they have real determination, grit and resilience.
“I was pleased for the two forwards who both got a goal and I was really pleased with Harry Anderson, he was a bundle of energy all game and played with a positivity and directness, he deserved to be on the winning team.”
The manager also reserved praise for goalkeeper, Paul Farman, who returned to the starting line up to make this third appearance in the competition and made a crucial contribution to the full time result.
“It was a hell of a strike by McConville for their second goal, but I was proud of Paul Farman. It’s not easy for any player when you’ve not played for a while, he had a great second half and we wouldn’t have won that game but for a couple of great saves from him.”
“We’re pleased to get through to the next round and we’re the only League Two club through so far into the next round of the Northern Section. It’s a real positive and something we can be proud of.”
