The Imps were unchanged from their 2-2 draw at Nuneaton on Saturday for this Skrill Premier game against Tamworth at Gelder Group Sincil Bank Stadium.

It was a pleasant evening as referee Peter Bankes led the two teams out of the tunnel and once the pre-match formalities were done and dusted play got underway with Tamworth kicking off.

The visitors were the first to press with Jon Nolan forced to get in a great block to deny Lateef Elford-Alliyu from just outside the box whilst City's response saw Todd Jordan flick on a Sean Newton free-kick but Ben Tomlinson was unable to divert the ball goalwards.

Tamworth forced the first corner eight minutes in but Nat Brown rose well to clear his lines whist three minutes later Paul Farman was forced to claim an Andy Todd snap-shot which came sharply at him from 15 yards.

City replied by winning a corner of their own and after Brown was denied by a defender, the follow-up ball into the box ended with Tomlinson firing over. The advancing Tom Miller then warmed Cameron Belford's gloves with a fierce shot from a narrowing angle.

Tamworth then saw appeals for a penalty waved away after Richard Peniket went down under a couple of challenges and when the loose ball was hacked behind, the resultant corner sailed over a packed area and out for a throw-in on the opposite flank.

At the other end a Jordan cross was flicked off Tomlinson's head by a back-tracking defender before Jordan was booked for a mistimed challenge on Lloyd Kerry. Shortly afterwards Nolan required treatment after coming off worse following a clash of heads.

A scrappy half continued with Tamworth winning two more corners before Kerry was cautioned for a late lunge on Foster. The half ended after two additional minutes of play and following a City goal-kick.

Whilst the Imps emerged unchanged, Tamworth made a change prior to the start of the second half with Connor Gudger replacing Mark Wright.

A sliced clearance from Belford led to a City corner less than a minute after the restart and when Power played the ball in the visiting 'keeper made amends by punching clear. Tamworth's response saw Peniket fire into the side netting after the ball ran to him on the angle.

Ten minutes into the half Brown nipped in to deny Elford-Alliyu a sight of goal and when Ben Richards-Everton met the resultant corner, Farman had to be at full stretch to tip the defender's header over his bar.

Waide Fairhurst replaced former Tamworth man Nick Wright in the 58th minute whilst five minutes later Foster had a shot cleared off the line after a Newton free-kick landed at his feet 12 yards out.

A caution to Ben Tomlinson in the 66th minute after he left a foot in on his man was his fifth of the season and a one-game ban heading his way.

Tamworth's second change came after Miller was unable to keep in a Fairhurst cross with Louis Harris replacing Lloyd Kerry in the 70th minute.

Another centre, this time a pacy one from Newton, was diverted behind by Miller as the Imps pushed forward again before a long Miller throw was headed behind for a corner. Brown, however, was pulled up for a foul on Belford.

Another corner quickly followed before a Jordan cross evaded everyone as Belford emerged with the ball in his gloves. Kaiyne Woolery for Lateef Elford-Alliyu was Tamworth's final change with nine minutes on the clock.

Bohan Dixon replaced Todd Jordan a couple of minutes later before City were forced to defend a free-kick after Miller was harshly penalised for a foul in his right-back position.

A foul on Dixon at the other end gave the Imps a chance to create something from a set-piece and when Power's delivery was helped on, Dixon was denied by Belford at full stretch. The Tamworth defence somehow scrambled the corner away and as they broke, Miller crunched into Woolery to earn himself a booking.

When Woolery returned to the fray he duly went in high on Farman and joined Miller in the book. Peniket was the next to be booked for moving in front of Farman as he prepared to launch a drop kick forward.
