Newport County AFC midfielder Jake Thomson has joined the Club on a month's emergency loan, pending international clearance.

A Trinidad & Tobago international with two caps to his name, 23-year-old Thomson joined Newport last summer having spent the majority of the previous season with Forest Green Rovers.

Thomson started his career as a youngster with Southampton, making his first team debut as a teenager early in the 2008/09 season and having gained experience during a loan spell at Bournemouth he went on to play 14 times for Southampton before finishing the 2009/10 season on loan at Torquay United.

A permanent move to, and one season with, Exeter City followed with his time at St James Park including a month's loan at Cheltenham Town. He moved to Forest Green following a brief stint at Kettering Town.

Portsmouth-born Thomson made his full international debut for Trinidad & Tobago versus Costa Rica in October 2009 in a World Cup qualifying match.

The paperwork involved in the loan move was finalised late this afternoon and it is hoped that international clearance will be granted in time for Thomson to be eligible for Saturday's trip to Ebbsfleet United. A clause in his deal, meanwhile, means that he won't be able to face Newport when the teams meet a week later.
