SUSU Football Festival

29 April 2013

On Saturday 20th April 2013 the first Stand Up Speak Up Football Festival took place.

Stand Up Speak Up (SUSU) is a social inclusion project based in Lincolnshire. On a weekly basis Lincoln City FC Sport & Education Trust Community Coach Lee Rostron visits four core city schools in Lincoln, each of these schools are twinned to a school in village surroundings.

The idea behind the SUSU Football tournament was to get all of the participating schools to come together and join in a morning of footballing fun.

The morning started off with all of the participating teams Welton St Marys, St Peter at Gowts, St Faiths and St Martin’s, Monks Abbey, Bishop King, Ellison Boulters, St Michaels, and a SUSU Saturday club team, playing in two groups.

Each team played three group games and a final game against the team that finished on par with them, in the other group. This led to a brilliant final between Ellison Boulters and St Faith & St Martin’s in a game that could have gone either way with chances at both ends.

Ellison Boulters eventually scored when a Joseph Starbuck free kick was flicked past the St Faith & St Martin’s 'keeper. This turned out to be the only goal of the game in a fiercely contested but good spirited final.

The Festival was a great success and is definitely something that will be replicated in the future. The Sport & Education Trust would like to thank Alice and Andrew for refereeing the tournament, Nick Hope for running the SUSU team and all the schools for attending. Also a big thank you to parents for bringing the children down on the day.
