RAF Mark Milestone At The Bank

1 April 2013

The Royal Air Force celebrates its 95th Anniversary today and are celebrating by sponsoring the match ball at our game against Cambridge United.

Making this day particularly special that the son and grandson (RAF Flight Lieutenant Jeremy Lawton and Ben Lawton) of former Imps player “Nobby” Lawton will be presenting the ball to the match officials prior to kick-off.

Young Ben, like his grandfather who played 20 games in the 1970/71 and 1971/72 seasons before sadly retiring through injury, is a talented youth player and is currently on the Newcastle United Youth Development Squad, having previously been with Dundee United.

Lincolnshire and the Royal Air Force have always shared a special connection and today sees more Royal Air Force Stations and personnel in this one county than any other, and can also boast the home of such illustrious units as the Red Arrows, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the Royal Air Force College.

They are continually recruiting many high calibre individuals from the county into not only the regular Service but also into the RAF Reserves, where they have three squadrons based at RAF Waddington.

So if you fancy something challenging a role in the Reserves offers you the best of both worlds. Not only will you get the chance to train and work alongside regular personnel, at home and overseas, but you’ll also take the new skills you develop back to your day job.
