Defender Peter Gilbert believes the Club can go into Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Mansfield Town with no fear after City’s heroics in the last round.
The Imps knocked out League One Walsall in the first round, and Gilbert believes that result can give them added confidence for the game at the weekend.
"I think so, we haven’t spoken about it since it happened, we were just looking forward to the next game but individually it might be in the back of the mind so you can think back and look at the results that have got you to this stage," said Gilbert.
"So on that basis, certainly, the lads know we can get a result and we’re confident we can get a result because we’re doing well at the moment and we want to push on and move forward.
"The next game is Saturday and we’ll look to win the game and we’ll certainly approach it in the right manner."
It promises to be a tight affair at The 12th Imp Sincil Bank Stadium, with only three points separating the sides in the league and the two teams sharing the points in October with a 0-0 draw.
"I expect there to be very little in it to be honest, really fine margins, it was my second game when we played them at Mansfield and we did fantastically well to get a clean sheet," he added.
"It wasn’t one of our better performances, but we took something out of the game, and at the stage we were at and at that time it was great to get a clean sheet, they’re a physical side so it’s going to be a very hard game."
With the possibility of a luxury third round tie at stake, Gilbert knows the glamour that awaits the winners of this weekend’s match and has a few ideas of his own who he’d like to see Lincoln pulled out the bag with, come Sunday.
"I’m a Sunderland supporter, but fortunately I’ve already been able to play there in my career so I would have picked that.
"Beyond that, St. James’ Park, being from the North-East it would be nice to go back there and play again, so possibly St. James’ Park.
"It would be superb to get there, I’ve been lucky enough to play in the third round a couple of times, and pulled out Everton twice!
"So it would be nice once again to get through, sit back and relax and see what the draw delivers, you either get a Premier League team or ideally a team in and around your area where you’ve got a chance of beating them."
The 29-year-old, who recently extended his deal with the club until January, was delighted to lengthen his deal and held special thanks to David Holdsworth.
"He’s been great, offering me the chance to come in, he’s been fantastic and very flexible with me, he understands what I want to do and where I want to be," he explained.
"I was happy to do a month initially and then we both decided that January was the next step and to take it from there."
The flexibility from his gaffer has helped Gilbert progress with his off the field activity. Currently studying for a journalism degree, he is enjoying his time behind the scenes of the football world.
"It’s a good course, it was on my mind for a while, I heard about it through a previous club and a teammate there, so it was in the back of my mind," he explained.
"It progressed over two or three years from initially hearing about the course, so it was knowing people who were getting on the course, speaking to different people who had just finished the course and speaking to the PFA and the education department to talk about it."
With the course offering a variety of media outlets including TV, radio and print journalism, Gilbert has a pretty clear idea where he would like to work.
"I think I would like to go into the TV side of things... you don’t have to write," he jokes.
"I do all the different sides of journalism, but it’s kind of a case of doing a little bit of everything, see what you enjoy, what you don’t enjoy as much, as see where you go.
"I like the interactive side of TV, talking to people about things, giving your opinions on games and things like that, it may suit me more in that media, but it takes time building the experience, something I haven’t got at the moment, but things can change so we’ll see how we go."
That is the long term plan for Gilbert, but playing for the Imps is the number one priority for now and keeping the club on the road to Wembley.
But if Wembley is out of the question, then St. James’ Park will do just fine.
