Lee Mitchell had no complaints following Sunday’s loss at Doncaster Belles, but is confident the team will recover ahead of the challenge of facing table-topping Stourbridge next time out.

City more than matched the Belles during an evenly-contested opening half in Thorne, but struggled to regain a foothold in the game after Ryley Johnson’s stunning strike just after the hour mark. Sophie Brown and Nadia Khan then struck in the closing stages.

Mitchell said: “We didn’t come out of the changing rooms for the second half, whereas they started quickly. Ryley scored a great goal for them and we didn’t recover off the back of that.

“The match was fast and furious, as you expect when you go to a good side like the Belles for a local derby. At 0-0 they didn’t create anything, though we didn’t either, but you won’t get anything out of games if you’re not at it for the full 90 minutes.”

With no fixture next weekend, City will host the league leaders Stourbridge at Moorlands on Sunday 12 March.

Mitchell added: “We’ve got two weeks to work on it, because we’ve got another tough game against Stourbridge.

“I’ve spoken with the team and club captain, and to be fair they want to be in training hard and taking advantage of the two sessions this week. So that’s what we’ll do - we’ll push on in the next few weeks.”
