Former West Brom youngster Max Melbourne initially joined Lincoln City on loan until January 2020 on the final day of the 2019 summer transfer window. The 22-year-old arrived at the Hawthorns aged nine and worked his way up the ladder signing a professional deal in 2017.

Melbourne’s previous first-team experience had come during loan spells in Scotland with Ross County and Partick Thistle where he made a total of nine league appearances.

The defender made his Imps debut at Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Trophy a day after signing for the club. In January 2020, Melbourne turned his move to LNER Stadium permanent signing a two-and-a-half-year deal.

During the 2020/21 season, Melbourne spent time on loan with Sky Bet League Two side Walsall, where he made 20 appearances, scoring one goal.
